Good nutrition during pregnancy and in the first years of your child’s life is very important. Pro Action’s WIC program provides pregnant women, new and breastfeeding moms, and children under age 5 with healthy food, breastfeeding support, nutrition advice, and referrals to other services. Dads, grandparents, and caregivers can also apply for children in their care. ProAction (Pro Action) WIC serves Steuben County, New York.

This one hour class will review information on how to best prepare for your breastfeeding journey. We will cover topics including skin to skin, getting a good latch, benefits to breastfeeding, and how to identify infant hunger cues.

Farmer's Markets

Each year, between the months of June and September, your family will be able to receive an additional $25.00 in coupons for each WIC participant over 6 months of age, for use at Farmer’s markets around the state.  Spend some quality time with your family at places like The Wind Mill, Corning Centerway Market, Bath Farmer’s Market, Lowrey Farms in Campbell and Dave’s Produce in Bath. For questions, or to receive your coupons, please contact our office. 
 

How to use them:

  • Use them between June 1st and November 30th.
  • Use only to purchase fresh, local fruits, vegetables and herbs at participating farmer market vendors.
  • Use them for their full value. No cash change is allowed when using the coupons. The vendor may add produce to make up the difference.

Q: What do I need to bring to my first WIC appointment?

A: If you’re able to call and ask, great! If not, please bring proof of:

  • Identity: Driver’s licence, birth certificate, passport, sheriff’s ID, non-driver ID to name a few
  • Residency: A piece of mail with your name and current address on it received within the last 30 days- junk mail counts
  • Income: All income received within the last 30 days (social security disability, child support, pay stubs from wages)
  • The child who will be coming on the program, or prenatal mom

Q: How will I know who needs to come to the appointment?

A: Refer to you appointment reminder letter(s) or ask the staff at your local agency.

Q: Are dads or grandparents able to use WIC?

A: Absolutely! We encourage caregivers with custody of the children to apply for them. The benefits will follow the child if custody is shared. Call for more details.

Q: What happens if I forget to bring my child or a document to my appointment?

A: Depending on the appointment or documents missing, we may need to reschedule so that you can start or continue receiving WIC benefits. Please give us a call to find out more.
